Event Details

James Boyd, Port Jefferson Historical Society Trustee, will provide an overview of American Clocks of the 1880s. This will concentrate on clocks primarily manufactured in Connecticut including brief histories of major clock manufacturers such as Seth Thomas, Ansionia, and Ingraham.  The role the Clock Industry played in establishing the American "Industrial Revolution" will be discussed.  Types of the most popular clock styles will be covered. Examples of clock movements for "hands on" examination will be provided with explanation of operation.

Lecture will be followed by a short walk up to 115 Prospect Street.for a tour of the Port Jefferson Historical Society's Spinney Clock Museum.
